Wool on the Hoof

I made this burlap bag filled with faux greens and wool candycanes to hang on the front door. It's mounted on an old piece of barn board.

It's been difficult as of late to find time to post.  This past week has been crazy to say the least.  Dave's Mom who is 89 years old fell down in her apartment.  That's the third time in the last few months. She knocked out her front tooth but didn't break any bones.  She's had a very rough week. Her sister who was 93 years old passed away this week.

While making the thirty mile trip to Dave's Mom's apartment this week there were a flock of sheep along the roadside.  I asked him to pull over and get me a photo for my blog.  He obliged and these are the photos.

Don't they look cute in their wool outfits?!  I'm thinking how cute they would look hooked into a rug of many colors!  That wool looks like it would take a dye beautifully!

I've been busy making more bird pin cushions and a new little snowman which you can see in the new blog header.

We have a dusting of snow on the ground now and  expecting a couple more inches this weekend.  I hope to get back to rug hooking soon!   It's time to start turning the wool on the hooves to a little wool on the frame!

Hope you're having a gentle and productive weekend!
Blessings!

  2. Hi, Cathy, the pictures of the sheep are precious. On the way to my daughter's house, there are sheep and the owners have a huge Great Pyrenees dog guarding the flock. I think "your" sheep are so cute because they look so chunky.
I like your doorhanging arrangement very much. You gave me an idea, we have some of the original sheathing boards from our house that were removed during the roof renovation and I hope I can get some pieces to do what you did.
Great idea and very, very pretty with the red wool candy canes against the greens.

  3. Oh - so sorry to hear that your mother-in-law is having such issues. My mom has some severe falling issues as well due to sudden drops in her blood pressure when she stands. That, coupled with her blood clots a few months ago, has made it difficult. Hope and pray things improve. I love your little wall bag - and those sheep - what's not to love about those wooly things? Stay safe and warm this weekend - we're supposed to get a mittful and then some of that white stuff....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  6. Oh Cathy! You and Dave have certainly had a week of unhappy doings with his Mom and Aunt. I hope his Mom isn't hurt too badly and will heal quickly. Please tell Dave that I am so sorry about his aunt's passing.

On the happier side, I love the sheep picture. Your little snowman in the header is really cute. Great job! You certainly are in the Christmas spirit!
Hope next week is a much more peaceful one!

  8. Cathy,
Isn't it nice to have a husband who doesn't think it's "weird" when you ask him to pull off the road so you can take a photo for your blog?!
    Great pics!

  9. Cathy ~ I knew right away you would be looking at those little sheep and thinking "ummmm, wouldn't that wool make something pretty"!! That picture made me smile. They are precious. Glad you took the shot. Sorry about your family issues going on. The fall risk is problematic for sure. I know you're a busy gal these days. Love the stocking door decoration. 19. I love those sweet little black faces on sheep! Your photo would make a great hooked piece. Also, I hung our Christmas wreath on the door the other day, and just feel like I want something different. Your burlap sock is soooo what I would love to hang on my door. It would be exposed to the weather though, so not sure if it would work. You inspire me though to try and put something different together!
